Monastery of Our Lady and St. Bernard

Brownshill, England

Maundy Thursday

We should glory in the Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ
(Entrance antiphon)

We should say with Jesus:
”This is my Body
which is given up for you.”

We should love one another as he loves us.

We should do all this in remembrance of him.

And then, and only then, should we rise with him to a new life.

After the Mass, in some places until midnight, in churches, cathedrals, in all the countries of the world, Christians will watch with Jesus while he goes through his agony in the Garden.

Lord, we are all here watching and praying with you.
Each one in her own place and with her own thoughts.
Each one tired, perhaps worried, fearful or lonely.
Each one in love with you in her own way.
Hold us tight, Lord.
We want to hold you in your agony.
Calm our fears, Lord.

We want to watch with you, suffer with you,
pray with you,
sweat blood with you.

But we will sleep
and we will run away….

But we love you, Lord.
