Situation

Our monastery is located at the edge of the village of Brownshill, between Stroud and Cirencester in the south west of England. It is situated on a hillside overlooking both the Toadsmoor Valley and Chalford Valley within the designated Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The monastery is surrounded by a pleasant garden. There are wonderful views of the Golden Valleys and hills, and plenty of good walks. This enhances the peace of the monastery and is conducive to prayer.

The towns of Cheltenham, Gloucester, Bath, Bristol and Swindon are all within an hour's drive. .

Community

We are a Community of 8 sisters with a range of ages and backgrounds. This adds to the richness of our community life.

Local Church

The Monastery of Our Lady and St. Bernard is in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Clifton and the parish of the Immaculate Conception, Stroud.

History

The Monastery of Our Lady and St Bernard was founded in August 2006 following the withdrawal of our community from Slough. Seven sisters, four from our former community at Slough and three from our monastery at Hyning, Carnforth, Lancashire, formed the founding community.

Prayer

The chapel is at the heart of our monastery and it is there that the Eucharist is celebrated every morning. The community also meets 5 times daily to sing the Divine Office. Guests are welcome to celebrate all these times of prayer with the Community and also to use the Chapel for personal prayer or group prayer by arrangement.
