Monastery
of Our Lady of La Plaine Lille, France |
|
"Unity is lived out in diversity: our communities have their own special
character..... "
From our constitutions
|
In 1948, a group of Bernardine Sisters
arrived at the property that they had just bought. It was
in open countryside. Quite quickly, the novitiate and Mother
House sisters settled into château of la Cessoie. The
monastery was built progressively (see across - the brick
building). |
|
|
|
The monastery has been caught up in rapid urbanisation,
and is now situated in the suburbs of Lille. It is easy to get to
and benefits from a large garden which gives the impression of much
space. The monastery welcomes those who are seeking for silence,
peace and prayer. |
|
INFANT AND PRIMARY SCHOOL OF
LA CESSOIE |
 |
From the time of the
arrival of the sisters, a small school was opened. This has
developed over the years. |
Now there are 300 pupils.4 sisters work there
and others are involved in catechesis and supervisions. |
