Our thoughts and prayers have been with the people of Cumbria in the past weeks after the horrific events that have affected the lives of so many people. We are very nearly in Cumbria here, so we are very aware of the nearness of this tragedy and we continue to pray for the healing and consolation of all those affected.

At Hyning, we are having a visit from Sr. Mary Helen, our Mother General. She was superior at Hyning for 2 years and so knows us fairly well. We are also very pleased to have Sr. Immakulata with us, an African sister from Goma, who is resident in France at the moment. She is here for a week but again knows the place very well. She lived here for 2 years in the early 90s. Her laughter is infectious....

On June 5th we celebrated Harold Taylor's 80th birthday. Harold is one of our oblates and has been visiting for a number of years. He wanted to celebrate with us and so came for the day on Monday, after celebrating the real day with his wife, Norma. It was a lovely occasion and enjoyed by all.

We've also had several Slough visitors here in recent days. Gnina who is in year 13 at St. Bernard's and her Mum came. Alice Murphy popped in en route to Scotland, Eddie (former student) came for several days, as as well as Anne Bibby and her husband James who were staying in the area. We are always pleased to see our friends from Slough.

Hope you are enjoying the World Cup, despite the dismal start by England. Unfortunately matches seem to clash with the times of Church services and the TV is not working... Fortunately the BBC website is excellent!

As mentioned on the previous news pages, at the end of June, from the 24th - 26th, there will be a retreat for young people led by Sr. Mary Stella and others. "Made in the Image of God" is the theme and it will involve sharing the community prayer and some work with the community. It is open to married or single people, Catholic or non-Catholic etc. Contact Sr. Mary Bernard at hyningbookings@yahoo.co.uk for further information.
