Community and Prayer

The Sisters

At the Monastery of Notre Dame des Petites Roches, there are 13 sœurs. "The search for God is the life force of our whole day, which is divided between work and prayer."

Hospitality, which is traditional in the monastic life, is our main activity. All the sisters take part welcoming groups and individuals, even if some individual sisters play a more specific role.

History

1965 : The Parents' Association of the school Notre Dame de la Plaine, in Lille, Northern France (a school run by the Bernardines), bought an old hotel in the Dauphiné so that the school could go skiing.

1967 : Accommodation for 60 pupils was built.

1970 : A small Bernardine community was set up.

1985 : In July, work began on an extension which was necessary for the monastic life to be lived there.

1986 : Blessing of the new building.

1987 : The Monastery was officially established.

Gradually, the skiing classes decreased and a more monastic type of hospitality began to be established.
