“Guests are never lacking in the monastery”, wrote St Benedict. Our communities share their peace and prayer with those who come to visit. The sisters are ready to welcome, to listen and to take into their prayer the needs of all those with whom they come into contact. This hospitality includes welcoming the poor who come to our doors. Some monasteries offer more formal retreat programmes and opportunities for religious formation, catechetics and spiritual accompaniment. |
Several sisters use their talents to write icons, make and paint pottery and ceramics, produce cards and other types of art work, do knitting and embroidery, cook home-made biscuits and so on. |

Our Order has a long tradition of work in the field of education. Two monasteries have schools where sisters work in several capacities including teaching, pastoral work and administration. Through this work, the sisters endeavour to proclaim Christ to their students through the monastic values of prayer, community living and unselfish service, allowing each young person to reach their potential and to be equipped to live in today’s complex and rapidly evolving society. |
Some secretarial work is undertaken by the sisters, particularly for "ATD Quart Monde", an organisation which operates an advocacy service for the poor and underprivileged. |
