Peace with Creation

  • Monastery of Our Lady and St. Bernard Brownshill Stroud, England, GL6 8AL United Kingdom (map)

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1)

As Christians we believe that Creation is from God. We were created, blessed and given a beautiful home to till and to keep (Genesis 1:27-28; 2: 15).  Why then has “creation been groaning in travail ….. until now” (Romans 8:22)?

As we reflect on our attitudes towards Creation, we consider the words of Isaiah 32. This text underpins the 2025 Season of Creation theme ‘Peace With Creation’. In the text, Isaiah highlights the behaviours that brought about the destruction of Jerusalem by the Assyrians and sets out the behaviours that nurture God’s peace.

What does Isaiah’s message tell us about our Care for Creation?

What behaviour might we wish to adopt, to ensure that God’s Creation flourishes in our lifetime?

Jesus taught that small seeds can grow into the greatest of shrubs (Matthew 13:31-32). With faith, our small actions can rebuild the Garden of Peace that Isaiah describes as we care for Creation.

Let us make a start and trust God to take care of the rest.
