What does General Chapter mean to a Bernardine?
Several of the sisters have been interviewed over the past few days, partly in English, partly in French! The question? What does General Chapter mean to you?
Visit to Ypres
Fifteen of the Capitulants went to visit Ypres last Sunday. it was the 100th anniversary of France's entry into the War. We had the opportunity to attend the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate which is very moving. The Flanders Field museum showed the history of the war and contained very moving images and memoirs of the war, the senselessness, the human cost and the bravery of those who sacrificed everything for their beliefs. Have a look at some of the images on Facebook or at the Gallery.
More images added
Over the past week as the General Chapter continues, more images have been added to our site. Have a look at the Gallery page and the Hyning welcome page. Some of these have also been included on our Facebook group. Don't forget to like us on Facebook! There are interviews in french and english coming soon!

Help is needed in a Roman Catholic monastic guest house, situated in lovely countryside, near the North Lancashire, Cumbria border, less than an hour from the Lake District. Ideally we are looking for someone from September 2014 – July 2015. The hours of work would be flexible, working 5/6 hours a day, 5 days a week, and includes some weekend work. This would include serving guest meals, general help around the house, with possibly some gardening. (The ability to drive would be a bonus but is not a prerequisite.) No previous experience is needed. Full board and lodging would be included, as well as all laundry with some pocket money allowance included. This work would be ideal for someone looking to learn or improve his/her English skills or for someone looking for a Gap Year experience. The Monastery of Our Lady of Hyning belongs to the Order of the Bernardine Cistercian sisters. For more information please contact Sr. Josephine Mary at srjosephinemiller@yahoo.co.uk
Hyning news for Former Students
Dear Former Pupils,
As I write, we are still in the middle of the most extraordinary weather, and many of our present and former pupils, staff and friends are experiencing floods, rain and wind damage. It seems very inadequate to express our sympathy from afar, but we do and we pray that this very difficult time will pass as quickly as possible. We hear that this situation has given rise to many acts of generosity and support, and this is heartening.
At Hyning we have had an eventful year, quite apart from the weather!
