May 22nd is the first anniversary of Sr Mary Anthony's death. For those who remember her, I've added this little video for those who can't be at Hyning tomorrow or who want to pray with us and for her. https://vimeo.com/95972565

Help is needed in a Roman Catholic monastic guest house, situated in lovely countryside, near the North Lancashire, Cumbria border, less than an hour from the Lake District. Ideally we are looking for someone from September 2014 – July 2015. The hours of work would be flexible, working 5/6 hours a day, 5 days a week, and includes some weekend work. This would include serving guest meals, general help around the house, with possibly some gardening. (The ability to drive would be a bonus but is not a prerequisite.) No previous experience is needed. Full board and lodging would be included, as well as all laundry with some pocket money allowance included. This work would be ideal for someone looking to learn or improve his/her English skills or for someone looking for a Gap Year experience. The Monastery of Our Lady of Hyning belongs to the Order of the Bernardine Cistercian sisters. For more information please contact Sr. Josephine Mary at srjosephinemiller@yahoo.co.uk
Hyning news for Former Students
Dear Former Pupils,
As I write, we are still in the middle of the most extraordinary weather, and many of our present and former pupils, staff and friends are experiencing floods, rain and wind damage. It seems very inadequate to express our sympathy from afar, but we do and we pray that this very difficult time will pass as quickly as possible. We hear that this situation has given rise to many acts of generosity and support, and this is heartening.
At Hyning we have had an eventful year, quite apart from the weather!
News from St. Bernard's
News from St Bernard’s Catholic Grammar School 2013-2014
Warmest greetings to all Former Students, Staff and Friends of St Bernard’s! This year, the Newsletter has passed into ‘fresh hands’ as our former editor, Mrs. Rosalind Nockles, took the plunge and retired from 40+ plus years of dedication and hard work at school. We thank her profusely and wish her a happy and healthy ‘new era’!
The Staff at St Bernard’s are unique: not only does the very important teaching of curriculum take place, but also much of their own time is given up to run lunchtime and after-school clubs and activities. The last 12 months have seen an even greater range and number of opportunities for students to participate in something – too many to mention, but surely there cannot be many areas left untouched and an interest there for everyone!
Brownshill News for Former students of St. Bernard's
Dear Friends,
Our first piece of good news which is happening right now is that the sun has appeared at last and there are signs all around us that Spring is on the way! We were lucky enough not to have any flooding recently, but the rain never seemed to stop and the buckets and basins here and there inside the monastery and guest house were sure signs that our roofs were not immune to the onslaught. During these weeks, we kept in our prayer all those people who were suffering from the floods - particularly staff, students and friends, who live in what the media was calling the “black spot”. We realise, too, that though the rain has stopped, the aftermath of the floods is still there and that it will take all those affected months to get back to normal. We will continue to pray for you all.

Newsletter
2013 has been an eventful year for us, beginning as it did with the celebration of Sr. Mary Joseph’s 80th birthday in the company of her family from all generations down to the newest baby. Soon afterwards we were united with the universal Church at the unexpected news of the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI and awaited with interest the election of his successor. The white smoke came quickly and, conveniently for us, around 6 p.m. which allowed us to gather for supper in the community room and watch the proceedings. We were joined by Dom Eamon, Abbot General of the S.O. Cistercians and his secretary Dom Thomas, normally resident in Rome, but spending a few days with us following the meeting of the Region of the Isles. The name of Jorge Bergoglio was not immediately familiar to some of us, but soon became so as the new pontificate began.
